One action packed social weekend!

Wow, we had one action packed social weekend - so great to see everyone, but come Sunday night, there was no place like home!
Friday we had to drive to Frankston for Will to donate blood, his last weekly visit to get his ferratin levels down. Now he moves on to once a month for three months.  So whilst we were there, I met up at the play centre with my beautiful ex work mate Robbo, and her cute little girl Lara.  We chatted away for hours while the kiddies had a play.  I love how even though we don't get to see each other a lot, we are never lost for words.  Love you Robbo!!! Friday night I had to pack everything for us to be away from home for the weekend.
Saturday morning we had Willow's first birthday party, such a special occasion for her, even though she won't remember it.  Although, I always look upon the first birthday as a time to congratulate yourselves for getting through the first year of parenthood.  Congrats Pete and Bron for getting through all those sleepless nights, you know they are definitely worth it.  First birthday parties always have great food too, so this was a nice kick start sugar hit to our day!
From there we moved on to visit my sisters new place in Brighton.  They have not moved in yet, but we all met up there so the kids could have a play and we could check out their new home.  It is going to be renovated in about 8 months time, it will definitely be a beautiful home for them to share many a memory in.  Can't wait to spend some good times there with them.
Then we had to drive out to the in laws in Chirnside Park and drop the kids off to be babysat.  We had Jem and Darren's wedding party to attend.
So, off we drove to Box Hill - nothing like driving all over Victoria in one day!
Jem and Darren were having a wedding party at their new home.  They eloped on the 18th of December in the Grampians, shame we missed out on celebrating their nuptials with them, but at least we got to help them celebrate on Saturday night!! So many laughs, with great friends - can't believe we have known each other for 21 years! I still remember Jem's 13th birthday party when my wig fell into the punch (it was a dress up party).  After all these years, we are still the dearest of friends, I know we will be friends for life.
We stayed the night in Chirnside Park, much easier than pulling the kiddies out of bed and making the trek back home.
On Sunday morning, my lovely friend Flossie came over for morning tea.  She is going to be house sitting the in laws place when they go overseas for three months.  I dished up my usual lemon slice and cherry ripe slice, always a hit! We were supposed to also see my other sister Trin on the way home, but we missed them, they were still out.
We loved seeing our family and friends, I miss seeing everyone now that we live on the Peninsula, a catch up involves a lot of planning with the kiddies in tow.
Thank you to my wonderful friends for being a part of my life.  Even though I don't see you that often, I am always thinking of you and loving you xx

Stop and smell the roses................

Last week Will told me that it was time that I slowed down and "stopped to smell the roses"!  So, I have walked all the way around our backyard to find the roses, and we don't have any!!!
I know where he is coming from though - it is in my nature to just go,go,go. And lately I have been feeling exhausted from leading this kind of lifestyle.  Pre kids it was easy to do, I only had me and Will to worry about. But now, I have two extra little people in my life, and one of these I am the sole "milk" provider for.  So, I really do have to start slowing down and looking after myself.
I had one of those days last week, everything just really got to me, so I have now reassessed what is most important to me - and that is ME!  I need to take some time out every now and then, just for ME. I don't want to sound selfish, because the ME time I am talking about is just being able to go to the gym once a week.  I don't think that is too much to ask.  As Will said, I need to do something which used to excite me before we had kids. Something which was for myself and always made me feel good.  He was spot on!
Yesterday I went to the gym and had a great tough workout.  Feeling a little sore today, but I love that feeling of lifting weights, working up a sweat and your muscles feeling a little tighter.  As much as I am back to my pre pregnancy weight, I still have a mummy tummy to tone up!
I have missed the moments of when I used to train hard and tune out to what is going on in my life.  I walked away from my session feeling like the old ME, but knowing that I still had my family to go home too.
It's amazing how taking just a short time out in your life to do something for yourself, makes you feel great - I know I will be a better parent for it.
However, it's not all about ME, there is no I in TEAM - and that is what my family is, a little TEAM!
Each day when I wake up, I remind myself, that I need to smell the roses at some stage throughout the day - even if we don't have any growing in our backyard...............

5 Things to be grateful for each day - Saturday 12th of March

1 - Waking up to the sun shining (and it's warm!)
2 - Taking a run along the tracks at the Portsea back beach, then running along the beach. Tough climb up the cliff back to the car though
3 - Being able to hang out in bathers all day, the warm weather is great!
4 - Spending the afternoon with new friends, drinks, bbq and the little boys swimming in the pool. Tasty dessert of fresh fruit and ben and jerry's ice-cream, yummo!
5 - Love it when the boys go straight to sleep after an afternoon/evening out - see you in the morning my precious one's.

The Enchanted Maze Garden - Arthurs Seat

Today we wanted to have a real family outing, a day where we felt like tourists in our own backyard!  Well, we kind of are tourists, so much still to explore on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula.  We have now lived here for 2 years, but boy do we have so much more to see and do.  Every day for us feels like an adventure and a holiday.  How could you not enjoy waking up each day and smelling the wonderful sea air? Driving out of our street and looking at the bay each day, puts a smile on my face and makes me appreciate the beautiful part of the world that we live in.
Some people say that we are so lucky to live where we live - yes, of course we are, but we have worked damn hard to get to where we are in life.  We have been married for 9 years in November this year, we held off on having kids until we had been married 6 years.  It wasn't really a financial choice, it was mainly due to the fact that we weren't ready at the time.  Children are a blessing, a gift, they make you laugh and they make you cry - we are so glad that we have been able to bring two beautiful boys into the world.
Today was one of those days when my kids made my heart melt.
We had planned for days to visit The Enchanted Maze Garden in Arthurs Seat.  From the moment we arrived, we knew it was going to be a lot of fun.  The place is wonderful, the gardens are beautiful - and Coops was in his element.  Being able to run flat out for hours!  He loved the mazes, constantly telling us to go "this way"! There are 5 mazes, and they are all very different.  The indoor 3d maze was a little scary for him, I had to carry him the whole way.  Although it was Will that struggled when we came to the rolling tunnel effect!  But Coopers favourite part was the tube ride, we had to drag him away from there after about 10 slides.  It was hard work, as you had to drag your tube up to the top of the hill to start and each time, he insisted on sitting inside of the tube.  So, that was an extra 16kgs to drag!!  I thought he would be scared the first time, but straight away he had a massive grin on his face and let out a big weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!  He even tried to slide down it without the tube, luckily the safety guy grabbed him. That's our little daredevil - loves the thrill of a big slide!
Little Charlie slept the whole time, from the moment we left home until the moment we pulled up back in the driveway.  Oh well, we will take him back when he is older!
We were all so tired when we arrived home, it was a lot of walking.  So, we spent some time chilling out as a family.  Coops and Charlie had some hang out time, it was so cute - check out the photo's!
I think our little boys are going to be great mates, they already share such a special bond.  Charlie idolises his big brother and is always singing out to him to try and get his attention.  I always wanted a little girl, someone I could dress in tights!! But, you know what, I am so happy with my two little guys. They bring so much joy to my heart everyday - being a parent is wild at times, but I would not have it any other way. When they give you those special smiles and tight little snuggles, they really do take your breath away!

5 Things to be grateful for each day - Friday 11th of March

1 - Starting the day with cuddles in bed with all my boys
2 - Spending the day at The Enchanted Garden in Arthurs Seat and having a great time as a family - even if Charlie did sleep from the time we left, until the time we got home!
3 - An afternoon latte on the newly built deck
4 - Watching with pride our two sons interact with each other - sharing a great bond after only 4 months together. Happy 4 months little Charlie chops!
5 - A power walk on the beach wearing Summer clothes and feeling the warmth on my skin

5 Things to be grateful for each day - Thursday 10th of March

1 - Being able to start the day with a big walk, just Charlie and I
2 - Getting the chance to relax with Will and watch a dvd, eat pancakes and sip on a latte
3 - Being able to afford our home which is within walking distance to the beach and village shops
4 - Receiving email messages from great friends
5 - Curling up in the beanbag and watching Nemo with Cooper after missing him while he was in creche all day

5 Things to be grateful for each day

Do you ever find some days tougher than others?
You didn't get a good nights sleep, the kids have woken up cranky, its raining and you really want to get outside, that top you want to wear is in the wash?
Well, today I decided, that no matter what, I am going to find 5 things each day to be grateful for.
1 - My father in law for coming and helping Will to build our new deck. Yippee, it was all finished today!! Without his help, it would have taken so much longer to build.
2 - My loving husband for coaching and playing football with disadvantaged/troubled youths each Wednesday.  His inspiration and dedication to these boys is enabling them to grow and gain skills to help them in life.
3 - My mum, for phoning me out of the blue whilst she is on holidays, just to see how we are.
4 - My 30 minutes of ME time, to walk down the beach, in the rain, to just tune out.
5 - My little boys, for giving me those special hugs, laughs, smiles and reminding me how lucky I am to have them in my life.  The opportunity to be at home with them, taking them to the beach, the park, playgroup etc.
What are your 5 things?
